It seems my entire life I have known I was here for a purpose and to do something great.
I believe that all of us feel that, just very few of us know how to chase after it.
I also didn’t know how I was going to accomplish this great task or even what the task was, however I did know that if I worked hard and completely trusted God that things would work out in the long run, or actually in the short run, you see I have always been a little well I should say very confident.
Some people have said I am arrogant, however I like to believe it is just confidence and I think you need to have that confidence to get anywhere. Too many people apologise for their dreams and their desire to chase those dreams, I don’t think we need to apologise for them, I just think we need to have a strong enough attitude to go after them and believe they will happen.
Anyway back to my story.
James Hannan – The Start to the Story
I guess you could say I have the usual terrible start to life story. My dad died when I was 8, my mum never really recovered from his death and so that created more problems in the family and I failed school and when I say failed, I mean failed. I had the worst scores in my entire class on graduation. In fact when I look at the score, I don’t think I actually would have graduated if we lived in the USA.
So I wouldn’t say I was very well-educated but through Gods grace, work and faith I actually was able to work my way up into some pretty good jobs, because of time, I won’t go into all of them, except to say that I was blessed to learn some pretty good skills along the way in sales, marketing and team leadership.
James Hannan – The Story Continues
One day after work though I came home and received the wake up call that I needed.
My wife met me at the door as said we needed to buy shoes for our first daughter, I asked her how much they would cost and she told me $50 and even though I had a job that came with a nice title, it didn’t come with a nice pay cheque.
It was at that time I realised that I needed to start to look at life a little differently and realise
that working for someone else was not going to make me rich or give me the freedom I needed for our family.
That weekend, I told my wife that I as going to fast and pray for 3 days, I needed to hear from God and get His direction.
At the end of that 3 days (I
don’t know why it is always at the end of the fast), I felt like I heard from God. He said He had given me the answer 3 years ago and was wondering when I was actually going to do something with it.
I was praying for a business that had small capital outlay, high turn over of products, high margins, no competition and didn’t require a lot of administration.
When God spoke to me, I realised I already had the answer in my hands at that time.
For those people reading this article, you may or may not already have the right answer to the problem, but I knew I did.
I still didn’t do much with the business for whatever reason, I think I am a little stubborn.
But one day I came home to the place we were renting and I was so depressed to be living there. I realised I had to do something. I had allowed our living situation get into a pretty bad place and it was time to change things for the better.
I grabbed Kasey (my wife) and told her I had finally made a decision to do something with the business we had received 3 1/2 years earlier but I needed her blessing to do it. I knew that if I didn’t have it, I was not going to be able to get the things done that I needed to get done.
The next 12-24 months were a blur. We went from earning around $800 per month from our little business to increasing that by almost 13 times. We began earning over $10,000 every 4 weeks, and within the next 24 months, we were earning almost $18,000 every 4 weeks. Now that is good money and it was passive.
I obviously didn’t need to work for someone else and I could focus on what we needed to do, but also this didn’t happen without trials.
There were times I wanted to quit however quitting it was never a real option so I didn’t even want that option on the table.
Our business was no longer Plan B, it was Plan A and I had burned the ships at the shore so that I could not return.
We have been able to travel the world as a family, send our girls to the schools we wanted to send them to, build our dream home and then sell it (that is another story), give money, and so much more than I would have been able to do if I had of stayed at a job.
Each of us have a choice to accept the challenge of chasing our dreams or staying put in what some would classify as a nightmare.
The great thing is that we have a choice.
My recommendation is that you make that choice to chase your dream, and then stick to the choice that you have made.
